Lyrics to “Simple Song” Simple Song Written by Nina Ricci Verse 1 When times in life are so complex, they feel beyond control I get a burning in my chest and want to shake the world But, Mama gave me this advice when I use fiery words It’s a simple gift God gives to sit and watch the birds Refrain This might be a simple song, and I’m a simple girl Simple pleasures do the best to satisfy the soul Verse 2 When I can’t ease my troubled mind, sometimes I like to wander With a writing book to a lonesome place where I can sit and ponder I rest beside ole Roaring Fork where water runs over the rocks So loud it rushes in my ears and washes out my thoughts Refrain This might be a simple song, and I’m a simple girl Simple pleasures do the best to satisfy the soul Verse 3 When the rain beats hard on an old tin roof with the passing storms of summer I feel the cool spray off the breeze and it lessens my discomfort Then lightning bugs start coming out In the treetops by the million They light a fire in the dark and give me happy feeling. Refrain This might be a simple song, and I’m a simple girl Simple pleasures do the best to satisfy the soul Verse 4 When this wicked world has you vexed and people’s hearts grow cold It’s time to pray the old-fashioned way with hope our hands enfold To kneel behind a wooden pew getting right with God And pay the vows we know are due, keepin’ simple with the Lord Refrain This might be a simple song, and I’m a simple girl Simple pleasures do the best to satisfy the soul “Simple Song” written by Nina Ricci, BMI Music ©2024 All Rights Reserved #originalsong #singersongwriter #appalachian #acoustic

All Around My Hat - Nina Ricci (English Folk Song)

I learned this song from a gal on YouTube called @TrishsFolk Her rendition was so endearing and I loved the song so much that I set my mind on learning it. She mentioned that Steeleye Span is credited for the song and I did a little research and found out that it's actually a combination of 2 English songs called "All Around My Hat" and one called "Farewell He." All around my hat I will wear the green willow And all around my hat for a twelve-month and a day And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it It's all for my true love who's far, far away Fare thee well cold winter and fare thee well cold frost Nothing have I gained but my own true love I've lost I'll sing and I'll be merry when occasion I do see He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he The other night he brought me a fine diamond ring But he thought to have deprived me of a far better thing But I being careful like lovers ought to be He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he And all around my hat I will wear the green willow And all around my hat for a twelve-month and a day And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it It's all for my true love who's far, far away Here's a half a pound of reasons, and a quarter pound of sense A small sprig of time and as much of prudence You mix them all together and you will plainly see He's a false deluding young man, let him go farewell he And all around my hat I will wear the green willow And all around my hat for a twelve-month and a day And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it It's all for my true love who's far far away All around my hat I will wear the green willow And all around my hat for a twelve-month and a day And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it It's all for my true love who's far, far away All around my hat I will wear the green willow And all around my hat for a twelve-month and a day And if anyone should ask me the reason why I'm wearing it It's all for my true love who's far, far away #allaroundmyhat #steeleyespan

The Man in the Moon - Nina Ricci (English Traditional Song)

If you are at the end of a tavern gig with no songs left in your repertoire and someone comes up and adjures you to “PLAY ONE MORE SONG!”… if this is the song you come with off the top of your head, then it’s what you call a “humdinger!” It is thanks to an English folk band called “The Full English” that I learned this delightful song. TIP NINA via Venmo - @NinafromNashville Or PayPal - https://paypal.me/NinaRicciMusic?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US Website: https://www.ninariccimusic.com Man in the Moon [ Roud 21397 ; VWML AW/5/112 ; Wiltshire 377 ; Mudcat 143062 , 153174 ; trad.] When a bumper is filled, it is vexing, no doubt, To find when you rise that the wine has run out; And sure it's an equally unpleasant thing To be asked for a song when you've naught left to sing. I could sing something old, if an old one would do, But the world it is craving to have something new. But what to select for the words or the tune? I, in fact, know no more than the Man in the Moon. Chorus (after each verse): The Man in the Moon a new light on us throws, He's a man we all talk of but nobody knows. And though a high subject, I'm getting in tune, I'll just sing a song for the Man in the Moon. 'Tis said that some people are moonstruck, we find, But the Man in the Moon must be out of his mind. But it can't be for love for he's quite on his own, No ladies to meet him by moonlight alone. It can't be ambition, for rivals he's none, At least he is only eclipsed by the sun, But when drinking, I say, he is seldom surpassed, For he always looks best when he's seen through a glass. The Man in the Moon he must lead a queer life, With no one around him, not even a wife, No friends to console him, no children to kiss, No chance of his joining a party like this. But he's used to high life, for each all circles agree, That none move in such a high circle as he, And though nobles go up in their royal balloon, They're not introduced to the Man in the Moon. #englishfolk #tavernmusic #maninthemoon #folkmusic #tradmusic

"You've Been A Friend to Me" - Nina Ricci / Attributed to A.P. Carter (1936)

"You’ve Been A Friend To Me" recorded by the Carter Family, June 9, 1936 New York, NY (Decca) There is an 1868 recording that predates there's, apparently the song was written by Will S. Hays; This song makes me think of the fans who have supported me all these years when I sing this song. It's been a fairly long journey, and they've stuck with me through thick and thin. I appreciate you all! If you like what I'm doing, you can send tips via Venmo and PayPal. Much appreciated! You’ve Been That Friend To Me* A. P. Carter My bark of life was tossing down The troubled stream of time Since first I saw your smiling face And youth was in its prime Oh, I'll ne'er forget where e'er I roam Where ever you may be If ever I have had a friend You've been that friend to me Misfortune nursed me as her child And loved me fondly too I would have had a broken heart Had it not been for you Oh, I'll ne'er forget where e'er I roam Where ever you may be If ever I have had a friend You've been that friend to me As I look back upon the past Across life's troubled sea I smile to think in all I've seen You've been a friend to me Oh, I'll ne'er forget where e'er I roam Where ever you may be If ever I have had a friend You've been that friend to me Nina Ricci is endorsed by Deering Banjo Company #carterfamily #singer
