Nina Ricci - John Riley (Traditional)
"John Riley" - filmed on location at Bill Monroe Music Park & Campground in Bean Blossom, Indiana. Voice/Guitar by Nina Ricci Videography/Photography by Teresa Hunt Ricci at Get Noticed Music Photography Special Thanks to Tony Gillespie! This is one of Tony's favorite folk ballads sung by Joan Baez and by Nina Ricci. Tony is the reason we were in Indiana this fall. He organized a special concert for Carolyn Hester (1960's Greenwich Village folk icon) and I at Yes Cinema in Columbus, IN. Nina Ricci sings the folk revival classic "John Riley," which is a traditional folk ballad of English origin, written based on Homer's "Odyssey." John Riley is to the fair maid what Wesley is to Buttercup in the cult hit "The Princess Bride." John Riley approaches the fair maid and asks for her hand. But she denies him, saying her true love went sailing on the sea and that she's been waiting for him 7 years, and will never marry another man. He tests her faithfulness with 3 questions and when she passes the 3 tests, he kisses her 3 times and reveals himself as her long lost love. "John Riley" will appear on my new Joan Baez tribute.
